Last week, I got to do women’s fashion photography at the Sand Dunes, St. Anthony, Idaho with COMM316, Professional Imaging.
Last week, our awesome COMM316 class headed out to Egin Lake, by the sand dunes to have a high fashion photo shoot. Fashion photography is a genre of photography devoted to displaying clothing and other fashion items. It’s different from portraits photography because the focus is in the clothing and the accessories. Lindsay Adler is one of the experts in fashion photography. Below are the women that I photographed for this theme.
The below image is taken to advertise for Gucci clothing brand. Andrea Bradley taught me that if I want to become a fashion branding photographer, make it look like I’m doing it already. That’s what I;m doing with Gucci.
I posed my model in in a close-up head shot. The way she positions her arms shows some of her accessories. Even though it’s looks like I’m taking a regular portrait but I’m actually trying to show case her clothes.
In fashion photography, don’t be afraid to take some low angle shots with a wide angle lens. Even though it breaks the rule of portrait photography. It’s a really powerful technique.
Try to get your model from some creative angles with help a lot in fashion photography. Always keep in mind that you are trying to show the clothing brand. That’s what you need to always remember when going out on a fashion shoot.
Don’t be afraid to shoot into the sun. In fact, shooting into the sunset while adding a pop of flash can really make the difference. Check out a feel of my fashion images below. Again, low angle with wide angle lens create some cool effect in fashion photography. The refection of the sunset on Egin Lake looks magnificent.
Megan Kelly, the awesome teaching assistant in my photography class, suggested that a cool reflection in the sunglasses would really showcase the product. I don’t hesitate and start posing my model in the way that the sunset scene reflect in her sunglasses. This shot turned out EPIC!
